Birthday Celebration in Oregon

This past weekend, our little family traveled to Oregon to celebrate my Grandma's 80th birthday and my Grandpa Jack's 90th Birthday. They are amazing people that are still doing well and living life to its fullest. We drove 8 hours to Baker City Oregon where my aunt, uncle, and my cousins all live. We had so much fun being with family! We ate good food, had a birthday party, went bowling and visited a small town called Sumpter that had a flea market going on. I was excited for Jet to meet more of his family. It was cool to see all of us there; what my grandparents started when they got married, had children, and their children had children, now those children have children, and the legacy continues! The top pic is a group of us bowling, then two pictures of Jet crossing the border into Idaho and Oregon, then a pic of the grandparents with their great grandchildren. The last picture is a 4 generation picture with my Grandmother, Dad, me and Jet, so fun!

Mother's Day

I realize Mother's Day was a couple of weeks ago, but I just got one of my gifts today. I was excited to celebrate or I guess be celebrated for the first official time in my life. I had a great day, I mean everyday is really mother's day anyway. Jet got me some flowers, Almond Roca, and some headbands, he is so sweet to me. I also got a silver necklace with Jet's name and birthday on it. When more kids come I can add their charms to the necklace.
My thoughts on mother's day were of gratitude. The other night I was watching and playing with Jet and just thinking of how much I love him, want the best for him, and just have such hope that he will do great things in his life. In my mind I changed Jet for myself and myself for my mom. I thought about how much care and love she must have given me from the very beginning and those same feelings of love she felt and feels for me I now feel for my own child. That someone would feel those things for me and take so much time to care for me makes me feel grateful. I don't think I had any understanding of the sacrifice and power of a mother's love until I became a mother.

Provo Tower

James has really been into aviation lately and as part of an aviation club here in Spanish Fork, we were able to get a tour of the Provo tower at the Provo airport. We took Jet with us and it was pretty cool to see how air traffic controllers work and I was surprised at how low tech it was. They didn't have a radar or computer screen to track the planes, just a magnetic white board.

New Hobby

Before Jet was born, I wanted to make all these cute things for him, like a quilt, sling, swaddle blanket, etc. Unfortunately I broke the foot lever on my mom's sewing machine that is on loan to me. The sewing machine is a Pfaff and is probably older than me. So my Dad took it in to get it fixed when he was out here when Jet was born in October. Turns out, it was very difficult to find a part for it and I didn't get it back until like last week, over six months later. Anyway I decided to make Jet's quilt, and I really enjoyed it. I might have a new hobby in the making.

Wedding Weekend in Oregon

I love having something to look forward to, and David and Whitney's wedding was just that. We had such a great time in Oregon. From what I heard, the 2 days of wedding celebration were the only ones without rain in a long time. I think someone had a hand in that :). The wedding was so beautiful and we loved being around family. Jet met his Grandparents on the Hurst side for the first time, along with his cousins, great grandparents, aunts and uncles. He did pretty well on the trip, but at times I think he was feeling the stress of lots of new faces, sleeping in a different place, and riding in a car more than he usually does, among other things. He did well on the plane, only fussing when he got tired or hungry which is normal anyways. We are so grateful to all of the Hursts that made our trip enjoyable and for the kindness and hospitality that made the trip possible.

Happy Half Birthday Jet!

Jet turned 6 months old on Friday. He is doing so well. Just an update on how he is doing. We went to the doctor today and he is as normal as can be . He has a little thrush in his mouth, but that is it. Here are his stats.

Weight: 17.5 lbs 51%tile
Height: 27.5 in 83%tile
Head Circ: 17.5 in 69%tile

He used to be near the 90th percentile for weight, and I asked the doctor about that, he said it is normal for breastfed babies to be leaner and that he is doing just great. We have started solids (sweet potatoes and rice cereal). I think he enjoys them, but he still prefers nursing over solids. Here are some things about Jet that we love:

He rolls from back to side
He loves being surprised
He can find the tag on any toy and loves to play with it more than the toy itself
Loves to jump in his jumperoo
Grabs at anything and tries to put it in his mouth, even if it is your entire face :)
Does the cutest shy smile
Babbles while sticking his tongue through his lips
Sleeps around 10 hours a night and 3 naps during the day varying in length 45 min-2 hours
Sits up on his own for brief periods
He loves music and gets excited and intense when I play music on the stereo.
No teeth yet
Loves to play with his feet
Getting stronger on his tummy and I foresee him scooting in the near future.
Eats (nurses) 4-5 times a day (one feeding includes sweet potato and another rice cereal)
He has a mommy, daddy, and family that adore him!

Happy Half Birthday!

Cody

Our dog's name is Cody and he has been a part of our family since December of 2009. I remember seeing the posting for him on line and I thought, what an adorable puppy. I was sold. After talking with the breeder on the phone, James and I drove nearly 2 hours to get him. It was a little bit of an impulse decision, but it was hard to resist such a cute animal. I never knew a dog would be so much work, but as he has gotten older, he is much more easy to handle. When he was a puppy I would wake myself and him up 3 times a night to go potty. Good training for having a kid :). He loves eating socks, of which he has eaten 3 (one he threw up on his own, another we induced vomiting, and the other he was taken to the vet and given medicine to induce vomiting) He still is annoying sometimes, but he is pretty hilarious and offers us unconditional love. The video of him makes me laugh. He takes his bone that he has chewed down pretty well and throws it in the air over and over. He finds a way to entertain himself and us.
